| The purpose of an ACLS Instructor Course is to develop proficiency in teaching, organizing and conducting a provider course. ACLS Instructors must have a firm working knowledge of the ACLS material. They are also expected to demonstrate in-depth factual knowledge of emergency cardiac care. Participants learn to design a provider course to meet the needs of a particular student population. Currently accepted principles of adult learning, the use of interactive teaching strategies, and the ability to sequence instruction and evaluate progress are essential parts of the course Course Description: The ACLS Instructor Course provides the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and teach the first 10 core cases of the ACLS Program. Providers are expected to learn to manage 10 core ACLS cases: a respiratory emergency, four types of cardiac arrest (simple VF/VT, complex VF/VT, PEA and Asystole), four types of pre-arrest emergencies (bradycardia, stable tachycardia, unstable tachycardia and acute coronary syndromes) and stroke. Course Length: 3-days (30 hours) Intended Audience: Personnel staffing emergency, intensive care or critical care departments; emergency medical providers such as physicians, nurses, emergency technicians, paramedics, respiratory therapists and other professionals who may respond to a cardiovascular emergency. Card Type: Instructor Card will be issued after initial monitoring. Written/Skills Exam: Required for completion card - A current AHA provider card for the course you wish to teach.
- A letter of recommendation to be an instructor from an affiliate/regional or course faculty member.
- Letter from a Training Center Coordinator indicating that the TC will accept you as an instructor.
- Willingness to teach the scientific and program guidelines of the American Heart Association.
- Commitment to teach two courses per year according to AHA guidelines.
