Course Description:
The Heartsaver First Aid with CPR and AED is a combined course that provides the lay person and first responders with training in basic First Aid, CPR & AED procedures.This course combines OSHA approved First Aid, CPR skills and effective use of the AED (Automated External Defibrillator The student will learn when to call 911, how to administer CPR, how and when to use an AED and how to offer assistance to someone who is choking.
This program can be offered jointly with other AHA courses to meet the specific needs of your worksite.
The course covers:
First Aid
Remaining safe & calm during an emergency
How to recognize and offer assistance to anyone who needs first aid
Injury Emergencies including Bleeding, Bandaging & Splinting
Medical Emergencies such as Stroke, Heart Attack & Seizures
Environmental Emergencies such as Insect, Reptile or Animal bites
Outdoor Emergencies such as Heat or Cold related emergencies
CPR and AED
How to recognize and offer assistance to an adult or child who needs CPR
Hands on use of an AED trainer when used on an adult or child
Adult & Child CPR when using a mask & how to give CPR to an infant
Assisting Adults, Children & Infants when choking occurs
Intended Audience:
For any lay persons as well as First Responders who have a duty to respond as security, airline personnel, law enforcement and Firefighters. Also included are teachers, day-care workers coaches and volunteers who work with sports related organizations, church staff and volunteers including ushers, Sunday school teachers.
Course Length:
Approximately 6.5 hours
The student must successfully complete all skills tests in order to qualify for the Heartsaver First Aid, CPR and AED American Heart Association certification card.
